Over the weekend, we learned of several law schools that have changed their plans for Admitted Students Days/Weekends due to concerns over Coronavirus/COVID-19. Some have cancelled this programming altogether, others have reduced the schedule, and as the week progresses we only see this trend increasing. So, we wanted to post about a few ideas and tips for you if you find yourself unable to visit a school before you have to make your decision about where to matriculate.
- Connect with current students to get your questions answered. The school may have a Facebook group or another way for you to connect already, but you can always feel free to contact the admissions office and ask them to put you in touch with a student. Maybe you want to talk to a student who studies a particular type of law, who is involved in a particular club, who could talk about diversity on campus, etc. Reach out to admissions and ask them to make a connection for you.
- If you have a particular area of law that you want to compare from one school to another, admissions may be able to connect you with a faculty member from that area.
- You can also ask to speak with someone from Career Services, clerkship placements, financial aid, etc.
- Check out the social media accounts of clubs and activities you are interested in joining.
- Alumni are another great group of people to ask to be connected with as well.
- Additionally (based on our team's experiences when we had to cancel programs due to weather or other unexpected issues), if a school does need to cancel their event, they will try to put something together that will allow you to learn more about the school — online information session, chats, etc. Take advantage of them.
We hope that you’ll be able to make the visits you were planning, but if not, please don't hesitate to reach out to schools to help you feel more comfortable with the decisions you are making.
