Dr. Jill VanWyk is a practicing physician in private practice and academic researcher at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. With extensive experience in medical education, she has mentored students and residents at every stage of their training, from pre-clinical studies through residency completion.
Jill’s deep involvement in both medical school and residency admissions processes includes comprehensive application review, conducting interviews, and participating in admissions decision-making committees.
Growing up in the rural midwest, Jill’s first medical experience was vaccinating animals before attending the highly regarded University of Iowa School of Medicine. She has researched malaria transmission in Kenya and collaborated with a residency program in Monterrey, Mexico. She recently realized a lifelong dream of observing the mountain gorillas studied by renowned primatologist Dian Fossey in Rwanda.
Her current research interests include respiratory diseases, where she investigates both clinical outcomes and best practice implementation. With the ever expanding reach of new technologies, Dr. VanWyk is particularly interested in the integration of artificial intelligence in primary care practices, exploring how AI can streamline clinical workflows and improve patient outcomes while maintaining the essential human elements of medical care.
When not engaged in her medical practice or research, Dr. VanWyk enjoys exploring the natural beauty of Colorado through hiking in the Boulder foothills with her rescue dog and trying to keep up with her family on the ski slopes.
