I’m amazed at how much I’ve grown through the Pre-L course. I’m walking into 1L feeling confident from all the preparation and advice Jordana Confino has given me this summer. I wrote my first 1L case brief the other day, and the ruling/key facts immediately stood out to me. That’s not a skill set I had a couple of months ago. I’m also making my way through the cases so much faster! So far, everything Jordana has taught me has been invaluable.

Joe Pollak is as great a consultant as he is a person. He was detail-oriented throughout the entire application process. Some drafts, even short answers and short essays, were reviewed up to ten, eleven times. He is perceptive, for he is able to pinpoint my thoughts and questions, or identify my “angle,” even when I am not able to explicitly articulate them. I appreciated the way he drew on his experience to offer relevant and comparable points of reference. His feedback is always actionable; I never felt lost or confused about his comments. Perhaps most importantly, Joe made the application process seem much less daunting. I did not feel anxious the night I submitted my applications, because I knew that my materials had been repeatedly and thoroughly reviewed by a trusted adviser and mentor.

Applying to law school was daunting and confusing, especially as an international student. Paul Rollins guided me throughout the entire process. If I had a question, Paul had the answer. He is experienced and knowledgeable, but more importantly, Paul got to know me and understood exactly who I am as an individual. This allowed my application materials to shine. Thanks to Paul’s trusted advice, I was accepted to the majority of the T14, where I received over half a million dollars in scholarship offers. Thanks to Paul, I am heading to University of Pennsylvania. I would highly recommend Paul to any future applicants.

After two unsuccessful law school admission cycles, I owe everything to Derek Meeker for getting me into the law school that fits me best for my needs and professional goals after I had lost hope. This admission cycle, I was offered multiple acceptances, a full-tuition ride(!), and multiple scholarships after years of rejections and waitlists with no movement; he gave me the gift of choice and inspired confidence within me again.

Derek is an amazing listener, genuinely got to know me, and is a phenomenal writer and editor—he really knows his stuff and what admissions are looking for. There was only so much I could gather from the internet and past examples, but Derek knew exactly how to craft and tell my story in a convincing manner for admissions.

He was able to correct my mistakes and guided me to craft a more compelling and deeply more intimate personal statement, resume, and diversity statement that highlighted my complex and unique experiences. Derek was also there for any question I thought was too stupid or didn’t anticipate in my research. Derek pulled me out of my shell and made me feel comfortable for who I really am, almost like talking to a best friend and working with him was very therapeutic.

He guided me, but didn’t tell me what to do, ultimately letting me make my own decisions and come to my own conclusions, for which I thank him. Every decision I made, he offered his experiential advice, supported me, and only wanted the best for me, his client. No matter what roadblock or hurdle, mental or physical, I ran across, Derek was right there alongside of me for support, and I greatly appreciate and thank him.

Derek even gave me guidance on negotiating my scholarships, something I wasn’t aware I could do. Most importantly, Derek is real and gives it like it is. It was very humbling working with such an amazing human being who was so accomplished and wise, but I learned a lot about myself and became a better writer and advocate for myself in the process. I would strongly recommend Derek to anyone with a similar story as mine and I would work with him again.

I am a super splitter who previously applied during the 2020 cycle on my own and didn’t get in anywhere. I contacted Spivey early in 2021 for an initial consultation, and Danielle Early came up with a helpful roadmap for the next year and a half to make me a stronger applicant. When I was ready to apply in 2022, I appreciated how Danielle helped to frame my application, respected my ideas and rolled with the many changes I made to essay topics, kept me on schedule, and answered my many anxious questions with ease and without judgment. I am a repeat client of Jenn Kopolow’s. I first came to her a couple years back when I originally applied to law school. Save for the LSAT (which LSAC has made into a somewhat efficient process), the rest of the application cycle was an inherently opaque process. Jenn’s experience and expertise helped clarify many nuances that simply would not have been known by people who have not been through this process before. It was primarily this reason, along with a myriad of other benefits that can only really be understood by undergoing the Spivey consulting service, that I came back when I realized I had the grades after my 1L year to apply for transfer (another opaque process, and arguably even less inherently transparent than initial applications).

Through both cycles, all my questions, regardless of how minute or silly they seemed, were answered promptly and with great detail. I gained insight into facets of the admissions process I otherwise would not have known and felt many more times confident in submitting the application I did with Jenn’s guidance. Make no mistake — the brunt of the work and effort still remains on the applicant. However, Spivey makes all the difference. The best analogy I can come up with is imagine the applicant is a student filmmaker, creating a film for the very first time. The student is still fully responsible for every aspect of the project - casting, cinematography, editing, etc. Jenn’s expertise and guidance would be akin to having an A-list director providing advice to said hypothetical student throughout the process. I am transferring to Columbia Law School and could NOT have done this process without Paula Gluzman. While I am choosing to attend Columbia, I got accepted into 5 out of the 7 T-14 schools I applied to.
